Hotspot types under 128 are one-shots. The game keeps track of which of these you've already triggered, and won't trigger the same action again, even if you come to another hotspot with the same type. Here are my notes for the one-shots:

cellValues 0..127 (actually 0..24) are one-shots
7,8: Chains, on Never Stop Firing (Re-arm if user declines; open door 0 by +40% if user accepts.)
12: Open the zoo, on HHCC (Close doors 2 and 3. Open doors 0, 1, and 4.)
13: Escape from zoo, on HHCC (Open doors 2 and 3.)
14,17: Close adjacent doors, on BTH and on HHCC
15: Explain about corpses (Artificial: every corpse is implicitly a hotspot of this type.)
16: Explain about items (Artificial: picking up an item acts like hitting a hotspot of this type.)
18,19,20,21: Release flying reptiles, on WYS (Adds 3 to reptile count.)
22: "You see the Nuclear Device", on WYS
23: "Uh oh". Seal the airtight room, on IRBS
24: End the game, on GF (Sets game.missionDone)
Missing values (0..6,9..10,25..127) have no action and are never used.

Hotspot types from 128 and up trigger each time you come to one, whether in the same cell or another one. (But note that many of them have idempotent actions, so you may not notice anything happen the second time. Opening a door that's already open(ing) does nothing noticeable.)
128: Close adjacent door(s)
129: Open adjacent door(s)
130: Blowing pipes here opens doors 0 and 1, on GF
131: Open adjacent door if carrying silver key
132: Open adjacent door if carrying gold key
136..139: Sentinels (Not really a hotspot. Lets game check for sentinels only where one might be.)
140: Violet pod, on WYS
141: Open adjacent door if exposing Alien Gem, on GF

Thus, for example, there are 6 hotspots on WYS, three around each ladder, that all have the same hotspot type. Stepping on any one of these hotspots disables all of them, but adds 3 flying reptiles (frogs?) to whatever is ailing you. Exploding a pod dispels any flying reptiles you've got. Timing doesn't enter into the picture (except that if you're fast enough, you can release the reptiles and step on a pod before they actually do any damage.)

I wonder if it might be profitable to trigger two sets of lizards and kill them with one pod? More damage from the lizards, but less from the pods?
