I guess the stars are aligned today, because I also got a digital recording, using a method I was sure would fail.
I took a different approach than Treellama, with a 1-machine recording using the Classic environment and Audio Hijack Pro. Mine is quieter than Treellama's -- I don't know why the level is so low -- but it does have bit-perfect matching stereo (QT 2.0 is mono, so the channels should be identical).
Neither has bit-perfect silence (checked in a hex editor): in a silent section, Treellama's varies from -7 to +1, mine is consistent at -4 instead of the ideal 0.
