The Myth II recall was some time in late 1998 or perhaps the very beginning of 1999, early after Myth II's launch. Very early if I recall; I believe by the time my copy arrived they were already doing the recall. Or maybe I couldn't get my hands on it for a while because it had been recalled immediately. Or something like that. But definitely very early.
And almost immediately thereafter Bungie sold 19.5% of themselves to Take Two (Oni's publisher on Playstation, under their Rockstar label), most likely to help cover the costs of the recall. And they were in a tight financial spot for the rest of their existence after that until the MS buyout in June 2000. Oni's constant troubles certainly didn't help that situation much, but really, I blame the Myth II uninstaller bug for Bungie's demise.
