In Response To: Volunteers: Eternal "Memory" L.02~L.04 (pfhore) Level 04: "Sakhmet Rising" (Originally created by me; majorly revised by Don-Martin Antell. This level was originally titled "G3 Moontanning", by parallel with "G4 Sunbathing" which was it's inspiration, but I changed it to something less silly and more dramatic. In Egyptian mythology, Hathor was a benevolent mother-goddess, but in one incident she became an enraged destroyer named Sakhmet who tried to exterminate mankind. Thus, in this level where Hathor's intentions are revealed, "Sakhmet" is rising, so to speak.) You teleport in on the exterior of the Marathon, in vaccuum. You quickly find your way inside, though still in vacuum, where a nice courtyard has a terminal waiting for you. (This courtyard is another of the oldest features of Eternal; in fact much of this map remains unchanged from its earliest incarnations. The addition of the "moonwalk" exterior at the beginning was Adam Ashwell's idea, and much of the southern part of this map was completely remade by Don-Martin Antell.) [L04-T0-Unfinished] (Many people comment disparagingly on how much this Tycho is unlike the evil Tycho we know and love to hate from Marathon 2 and Infinity. I'd just like to point out that Tycho, in the brief instances we see of him in M1, seems very concerned with the wellbeing of the crew and the containment of Durandal's rampancy. It's only after his own rampancy and subsequent capture by the Pfhor that he becomes a jackass. But pre-rampant Tycho in Eternal is a nice guy, and that's intentionally supposed to contrast with his post-rampant self. You will note, however, the aura of pride that is already about him. Nathan "Bob-B-Q" Smith helped me get this Tycho's distintive dialogue down in a uniquely characteristic way.) As you go about your mission, near the first pair of switches is a terminal. [L04-T1-Unfinished] If you read through this terminal completely and do not escape out prematurely, Hathor takes that as acceptance of her offer, and you teleport out to Level 5: "Unwired". If you do not complete the terminal, you are free to continue your mission. (If you return to this terminal after completing your mission, it will be a pre-recorded message directing you back to the correct terminal. Terminal 2 is no longer used - it used to be an old failure message that would have taken you to Level 5 if you took too long, in an older version of the plot where you never had the chance to accept Hathor's offer - and the unfinished version of Terminal 3 is inaccessible, as that terminal only becomes accessible once you've completed the mission objectives.) If you complete your mission and smash the wireless relays as instructed, then nearby a terminal becomes available. [L04-T3-Finished] You teleport out to Level 8: Core Done Blew.
