I still think that it could be easily explained by a Wr'k getting into the sphere before it closed up (perhaps, as an energy being, it could inhabit and control one of the biological Jjaro individuals to get inside, or perhaps there was an inside job to get one in by a person or persons involved in a conspiracy). Once inside the sphere, presumably it would survive the weapon's firing, and it could live inside the core (since the Pfhor destroy it with a trih xeem, I suppose it's implied that the core of the sphere is a star, making something more like a Dyson Sphere-type of structure.
