Yet another follow up to my own post: by "this MML" I mean particularly the MML specifying what weapons you start with; not just any MML that you change on a level-by-level basis. You can change shapes replacements and fog and whatnot willy-nilly between levels and they take effect as you start the new level. But starting-weapons MML only gets called upon when you start a new game.
