: I needed to take a few screencaps from a DVD movie to utilize as photoshop
: fodder. I can't draw a human skull freehand without it looking lopsided,
: so I need something in a decent resolution to go from.
: The WinXP box I have (sitting beside my DVD-less Powermac) has gone through
: programs like 'Snagit' and others - but nothing it seems can screencapture
: from a paused video file. The saved file has a black square where the
: image should be. Is there any particular WindowsXP compatable DVD playing
: software that does framegrabs, or a 3rd party app that can screengrab from
: an application like PowerDVD?
: Thanks - WMaiD thanks you in advance. :)

I'm pretty positive that VLC (VideoLan Client) Player can do screengrabs, but -- oh, yes, it definitely can. Just load up the disc and hit Video -> Snapshot. :)
Outside of just being able to grab screenshots, VLC Player is a fantastic program in and of itself. It's succeeded where MPlayer has failed, which is amazing to me. I didn't think anything was more useful than MPlayer.
