I'd have to disagree on this. I've spent hundreds of hours wandering around Marathon levels, going in circles, reexamining terminals to figure out what I need to do so that I could progress to the next level. "how do I get up there?", "what did I miss?", "what does this switch do?", etc.
With the exception of my first level of Halo I have yet to spend any significant time wondering what to do or where to go next. It feels like I'm on rails. Maybe this changes later?
