all races must have come from the forerunner. just like all humans come from "Adam and Eve". The humans were just the ones selected to fire the halos. If the halo story is the bible in antoher context, then the humans went to earth to be safe from the flood and the firing of halo, and the flood were created as punishment by a dominant race. the race promised to never destroy the galaxy by flood again, and the humans ensure this by firing halos.
