Except keep in mind where the remote trigger for the rings is - "the Ark", implied to be Earth by the sudden jump in cutscene. "Ark" suggests a vessel in which somebody survived something (like, "the Flood" perhaps? Big question then is, who is God and what the hell kind of promise are the Covenant for him to place in the sky after the Flood? The Halos do kinda look like rainbows from their surface, though...).
