Once again, for the seventh time...
Halo was once related to Marathon. Halo's story was once a direct, though distant, sequel to Marathon's. The Covenant WERE the Pfhor, the Jjaro WERE the Forerunners, and Massa Chef WAS our favorite Mjolnir cyborg. That's obviously changed now (unless someone wants to cry "alternate timeline!" or something), but why not leave what you already had in there for the oldschool fans to notice?
Thus, the Drinniol fit right in there in that universe, perfectly well as a member of the Covenant since they were a Pfhor client race. I never heard anything explicitly about this part before, and I'm not sure if I'm looking at the same part of the same website as you, but if you're implying that the Compilers were the original form of the Prophets, then that actually makes perfect sense, as the "brains" of the shattered Pfhor empire.
Do you suppose you could link/scan that image, or would that be breaking some sort of rule? Where exactly is this image from again?
