Minor correction there (bolded) to make the point stronger. Folks, I'd be happy to see Wideload get more publicity, but it's not going to happen that way. Wideload is all about independance, about reversing the "big studio" trend in gaming before it does to gaming what it did for the movies, and tagging along behind Microsoft's ad campaign is NOT the way to do that. Nor do I think that Xbox/MGS is terribly willing to shell out to advertise a different studio. Whatever Bungie or Wideload might think. Remember also that Wideload has the license for the Halo engine, not necessarily the intellectual property. ILB is using Halo storyline references by the double-handful, so the Halo tie is pretty solid... but Wideload's tie to Halo is not. Throw in that it's a crazily expensive way to promote to a very small demographic (those who know and pay attention to the connection between Bungie and Wideload) in a manner that only they will understand, and I'm afraid the weight of evidence is against the interpretation that ILB is promoting Wideload. Sorry. :( -- Steve's encouraging folks to stay grounded when speculating on this... things have gotten way crazy on the bees thing, and we need more caution than audacity in the analysis right now. |
