I'd always known about Marathon in one form or another. But for a for a long time my Family was chugging along with an LCII ( one step above an Abicus). I had a Sega Genisis at the time to fulfill my gaming needs, but I still enjoyed looking at the computer game boxes at Best Buy and electronics Boutique (kind of sad now in retrospect). I had always been attracted to the Marathon games; their cool triangular prismic boxes, the marathon symbol, and even the Title "Marathon" had a certain ring to it that stayed in my memory. Subconsciously I knew this was the game for me, even though I wasn't even really sure what kind of game it was.
My first actual expirience at Playing Marathon came when my Mom bought a Zip drive which came with demos for Marathon and A-10 Cuba. There may have still been a period in which I still couldn't play it because we were still beating rocks together with the LCII. Eventually however we were able to borrow a Power Mac from the School and it was GAME ON.
Eventually we did get our own Power Mac and I was able to buy the full version. I got it with the "Games of Fame" bundle including Warcraft, A-10 Attack, and an assload of demos like Pathways, the other Marathons, and Abuse. (Interesting sidenote: Since I bought that bundle, I've since bought the Marathon Trilogy Box set, the Warcraft Battle Chest, and the MacFlight bundle, thereby completely negating my original purchase).
From there I went on to complete my Bungie collection. I was a couple more years before I actually got online. The first site I ever went to was the Bungie Website, which led me to the Second site I ever went to, The Marathon Story Page. And the rest, as they say, Is History.
