In Response To: When did you first play a Marathon game? (Krazy) I got the original Zip drive for my old Quadra 605. It came with demos for assorted games, including this neat shooting thing called Pathways Into Darkness and some running game I wasn't interested in. I eventually got bored of Pathways after a few months and tried that running thing just for the hell of it and... whoa dude WTF! This is like Pathways but better! I'm getting mom to buy me this! (I was like... 11? 12? This was early 1995, and I just turned 22 last month, you do the math). So I bought it, and pre-ordered it's just-announced sequel. And waited. And played the demo some more. And waited. And found the Bungie Boards on AOL. And waiting. And became popular on the Boards. And waited. And finally Marathon 2 was released. And waited. And I played through M2. And waited. And beat it. And waited. And finally I got my copy of M1. I beat it's ass too, replayed M2 again, and had this brilliant idea for a sequel involving time travel, and wouldn't it be cool if they released the editors, and OMG cool here's Jason Jones' email address... damnit no reply. Whoa wait what's this? Another sequel dude sweet! And it's got the editors nice, they did get my email! Lets preorder it. [And waited, and waited, and waited...] Whoa dude sweet time travel! Hey waitaminit... grrr. Fine then, I'll make my OWN sequel to THEIR sequel... Eight years later, here I am still making obligatory references to Eternal in every post :-) |
