In Response To: Re: I guess none of us actually BOUGHT Marathon ;) (Siphonopho) I remember seeing a full-page ad for Marathon in MacWorld, the fall before I started 7th Grade. Knowing full well the absurdly light selection available to Mac gamers at the time, I knew I had to have it. Come October/Novemberish, my dad bought a brand-spanking new 6100/60AV, and the very day it came out of the box I was already hatching my plan... A week or three later, I saw Marathon on a shelf in Best Buy. I made up my mind that I wouldn't leave the store without it. I nonchalantly slipped the triangular box into the shopping cart and let my dad discover it while we were in line to check out. What followed was the most insane buy-this-game-and-I'll-do-X-amount-of-chores bargain you've ever heard of, seen, or otherwise witnessed. It wasn't pretty. But I got the game. I was instantly hooked. Sometime later(a year or two, I guess), I happened across M2 as we were on our way out of CostCo, as I looked over the bargain software bin. I was even more enamored with M2 than Marathon, although I mourned the loss of the howling Hunter. I never played TFL, but I did get MythII the day it came out, and played the Oni beta all the way through before its relase. I never had a chance to play through Infinity until I bought the Action Sack about eight months ago, and never really understood it until I read the explanations I found here. I also recently finished PiD for the first time, and that game still blew me away. |
