In Response To: When did you first play a Marathon game? (Krazy) No wonder they sold out to Microsoft! Like a lot of you, I got the Marathon demo free with a Zip disk or something, and one of my coworkers and I played it endlessly (at work of course). We got the full version of the game free with a Mac Warehouse order, and played it endlessly (at work of course). We actually played Marathon using a sort of "poor-man's co-op" style: we'd alternate playing, each person playing until he died, then swapping off. To this day I'm an annoying opponent in multiplayer because I hate dying so much... We only had two computers in the office, a PowerPC 6100 and an LCIII, and when we played over the LAN we'd have to switch machines after every round to make it fair. Needless to say, I didn't get a good grasp of the actual story until my first solo run through the game months later. Also needless to say, I was hooked, and scooped up M2 and Infinity as soon as they came out. |
