In Response To: When did you first play a Marathon game? (Krazy) : When did you first play a Marathon game and how old were you? The premiere issue of Launch magazine came out in 1995. Among other goodies, it contained a demo version of Marathon. I had my first "good" computer, a Macintosh Performa 6116. I was 13. I would turn out all the lights in my room and put headphones on and work through those three levels for about a week. But just getting through Arrival proved to be more difficult than even Bungie intended. In 1995 virus protection software wasn't very awesome, and upon beating the first level the interaction between Norton's and my computer wanting to access my cd-rom drive caused a crash EVERY time. Beating that level was pretty tough for me, and I remember the crashing making me very upset. However, the experience taught me several things, like holding shift on start up, and extensions manager... and in doing so, I not only was able to pass the end of Arrival, but I sealed myself as a Mac user for life. Upon beating the demo I had to wait until Christmas to the full box version of Marathon... but it was worth the wait. Its unbelievable that I still load it up sometimes and play through a couple levels. (with no computer glitches)
