: I think there's a couple of obvious reasons Eternal's not getting the same
: level of "hype" as Rubicon did, the first being that Eternal is
: a more of an open project; that is to say, the story's not so much of a

: In addition to this, Eternal's progress is kept on an open log and much of
: the development communication takes place on an open forum. This being the
: case, there is no device to accumulate as much excitement and mystique as
: a covertly developed work would employ. I think for its unique history and
: development style alone Eternal will be remembered by, possibly not now
: but after the final release is out and everyone's had time to really
: digest it...
Yeah, this is the reason why I kept it all secret for eight years. But that's also the reason, I think, why I never got anybody to help me... nobody believed the project was worth helping, I mean all anyone had ever seen of it was my claims of what was done. As soon as I said "it's dead, here, take it all!", I got some actual help. Though I've still been doing most of the work myself...
: The second reason Eternal is getting Rubicon-sized hype is that this is only
: a partial release of a scenario in development, possibly lending to some a
: sense of limited excitement, knowing that the great feeling one gets upon
: completing the entire scenario is months down the line. In this, Eternal
: is sort of like Return to Marathon, though I think its fair to say Eternal
: is operating with more steam at the moment. Drawn-out anticipation may not
: be to everyone's taste, but it does make the completion of that last
: chapter seem a bit sweeter.
I actually like that about the segmented release, from a storytelling point of view: I get to leave cliffhangers. At the end of each chapter you're off to somewhere else with some new twist or intrigue to the story... and you don't get to see what comes next until a month or two later when the next part comes out. Unless you want to go and read the story synopsis, but even that is a little out of date by now. Perhaps I should take it offline anyway...
