In Response To: Eternal for OS9 (and SDL?) working (Forrest of B.org) : Ok, thanks to a nice Mr. Matt Smith (Smeeisqualityfootrot), I've figured out
: So I've fixed it. It now runs perfectly fine under OS9, but I can't test it
: (replace 128 with 256 or 512 if you want higher-res textures) : and the SDLified Map and Images files here:
: (put them in the Eternal folder and replace the ones already there) : and the new, fixed Shapes file here:
: (replace the old one, of course) : and of course, a copy of Aleph One for your platform from here:
: (put that in the Eternal folder too) : Now all that should, IN THEORY, make Eternal run under the Windows or Linux
: ATTENTION OS 9 USERS - If you have already downloaded an Eternal OSX package
Hmm... I guess I still did something wrong, because I only see the Chapter screen before it crashes. I open it, it fades up to something that I can't see (it just looks black in the window), then fades out and fades in to the Eternal menu screen. All the menus work appropriately. I hit Begin New Game, and then it fades out and back in to the I.Marathon chapter screen. After I finish watching it scroll (or hit the Any Key), it stops, waits a moment, then fades out, waits another moment, and then crashes. This is from the stderr.txt file for Aleph One: XML parsing error: not well-formed at line 1 in object Eternal.mml.rsrc
It sounds like it's the same problem that you tried to fix with the OS9 version (one pixel too big), but for some reason it didn't work. I've tried installing this three times now, starting with the base Eternal folder, then adding the SDL Images, Map, Map.resources, .DS_Store files, then adding the fixed Shapes file and throwing an Aleph One install over it (I've also tried installing everything else over an Aleph One install. Same deal.). The scenario looks really well done from what little I can see in the game as well as stuff on the website. I hope I can get to play it ;P |
