In Response To: Re: Eternal for OS9 (and SDL?) working (HolyMcGibblets)

: Hmm... I guess I still did something wrong, because I only see the Chapter
: screen before it crashes.

: I open it, it fades up to something that I can't see (it just looks black in
: the window), then fades out and fades in to the Eternal menu screen.

That fade in/out is supposed to be the splash screen. That's a problem with the Images file I just got fixed.

: All
: the menus work appropriately. I hit Begin New Game, and then it fades out
: and back in to the I.Marathon chapter screen. After I finish watching it
: scroll (or hit the Any Key), it stops, waits a moment, then fades out,
: waits another moment, and then crashes. This is from the stderr.txt file
: for Aleph One:

: XML parsing error: not well-formed at line 1 in object
: Eternal.mml.rsrc
: There were parsing errors in configuration file Eternal.mml.rsrc

Devon had this problem, it turned out that somehow the opening "<" had been trimmed off his file. I don't know how, all the files I have over here have it. But if your main screen is working then it clearly IS parsing the XML... odd.

: Unimplemented opcode 8201 in PICT resource

This is something funky in the Images file too, it was causing the HUD and splash screen not to display properly. I think I've got it fixed now.

: vhalt motion_sensor.cpp:645: Assertion failed:
: destination->width==motion_sensor_side_length

: It sounds like it's the same problem that you tried to fix with the OS9
: version (one pixel too big), but for some reason it didn't work. I've
: tried installing this three times now, starting with the base Eternal
: folder, then adding the SDL Images, Map, Map.resources, .DS_Store files,
: then adding the fixed Shapes file and throwing an Aleph One install over
: it (I've also tried installing everything else over an Aleph One install.
: Same deal.).

Hmm... now that is troublesome, the fixed shapes file still giving that error.

: The scenario looks really well done from what little I can see in the game as
: well as stuff on the website. I hope I can get to play it ;P

I've got someone on Hotline with me now who, after much troubleshooting, has Eternal running bug-free on his system. He's zipping his folder and ULing it now; I'll transfer it to the Psyjnir server and pass out the link so you all can see if it works fine for you as well.
