Zeus Durandal/Cortana? (Warning: Crazy Ideas) | ||

In Response To: New Cortana Letters Now Online? (Enkidu) Some various things popped out at me when I did a cursory perusal of the Bees site: • The Myth of the Bees:
Zeus was angry then, for he loved the race of men, but he could not break his promise. "You shall have your poison," he said, his brow like thunder. "But to use it will cost you your life. If you plunge your sting into the flesh of humankind, there it will stay, and you will die from the loss of it."... With a Bungie context in mind, I immediately thought of Cortana and Durandal; just like the Queen Bee, both make an "appeal" to a "higher power" to fight an overwhelming evil: Cortana brings the Master Chief to the Halo to hopefully find something that the Forerunners left behind to use against the Covenant. Durandal brings The Marine to L'howon to hopefully find something that the Jjaro left behind to use against the Pfhor. The female imagery however would suit Cortana more, but as Durandal himself noted in M2, it's possible to mistake his gender, as Charlemagne did... "...And the moral of the story is: evil wishes come home to roost." This reminds me of the mysterious back story surrounding the relationship between Durandal and Bernhard Strauss, and the placing of the Battleroids on board the Marathon. Just like the various mysterious goings-on behind the scenes in Halo, there's a sense that something's going on here below the surface which isn't benevolent. With Durandal, the Marathon, and the Battleroids, it's the "back-stabbing politics" back on Earth (involving the MIDA?)...with Cortana, it may have something to do with Dr. Halsey and ONI. There's a conspiracy back on Earth that's being alluded to here, with something done with bad intentions that's backfired. Going back to Marathon, I though of Durandal's crazed "i did it i brough them here" message from M1...maybe Durandal was supposed to call the Pfhor to Tau Ceti in the hopes that the conspirators (most likely MIDA) could use them as allies to conquer Earth, but it horribly backfired. Oh, and there's the reference to Zeus, also the namesake of our favorite fusion-based weapon. Someone also posted this to Dana's blog: "30 hornets vs 30,000 bees" -- I don't know if hornets in smaller numbers can take down a nest of bees (is difference in their venom?), but those kinds of odds remind me of the the Marine facing down the Pfhor -- or the UNSC and the Master Chief facing down the Covenant. Anyway, sorry for the long post. Seeing all this has set my mind all racing... |
