In Response To: This is important to me... (ukimalefu)

: After all this is the MARATHON Story forum.

Agreed. The contact email on the site is interesting, too: ladybee777@hotmail.com. Hmmm...

This is a super-short recap of progress I've managed to find elsewhere. The HBO forum is a bit of a mess right now due to the ultra-high traffic, the signal-to-noise ratio on the bungie.net boards is appallingly low, rampancy.net isn't covering this, and I can't make any sense out of the planet halo forums. (Not their fault, probably... I didn't spend the time to go through their entire thread.) I'm stuck at work, so my ability to look further is, er, limited.

There are embedded messages in the hex code of "corrupted" graphic files... I don't have a reader, so I can't verify this myself, but the text appears to be a story about a Widow trying to resurrect a Queen. It's been reconstructed here: http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=456139

There is the countdown clock on the front, counting down to August 24 for "wide awake and physical". I've been stamping mercilessly on rumours that this is a prelude to an early release of Halo 2... there's just no way that this could be true unless the Weekly Updates are complete fabrication and they lied to the press at E3. Doesn't sound plausible to me. There are other dates in the "error message" that pops up; July 27 will see "network throttling erode", whatever that means, and August 10 will see the "medium metastasize".

There's still some doubt that this is Bungie, but the doubters are now leaning to "blaming" X-box Live instead of parties outside Microsoft. I personally think that there are good reasons to treat this as a Bungie release writ large.

Run with it, folks, since I can't. It's frustrating beyond description to be stuck here, in an office with the hyena braying and parrot squawking of non-Bungie-fan co-workers, (who don't really understand what they're talking about either, but we won't go too far there...) with all this going on and my main communication arteries crimped. Gonna throw a clot soon, I think.

-- Steve knows it's naht a toomah.
