In Response To: Re: Pfhor Battle Groups mentioned in Marathon cann (Bob-B-Q)

There is a *huge* wealth of cool information in this M2 Manual prologue. I'm surprised I forgot / passed over it a few months back when I was reading it in my University - town.

Pfhor Battle Group Three, Central Arm, hung motionless above the
dusty ball of rock that was Lh’owon, ... The gigantic battleship, three smaller destroyers and twenty auxiliary craft had not left the system for nearly six years.

Allright. Now I know that in cannon, there are at least three divisions of a battle group: East Arm, Central Arm, and Western Arm.

The count of ships was going to my next question after Steve posted the terminal image (I presume from) M2. Thus, in any given "arm" there exists:

1 capital battleship, three destroyers, and 20 smaller craft.

Now, Durandal was able to take out an entire arm of Battle Group 3. But in what ship? At this point in Marathon, he was still using the Boomer, yes?

: In its glory years, Battle Group Three had been known throughout the Empire; decorated in every battle anyone remembered from the Wars of Imperium, for turning back the loyalists at Tahrm’s Gap and holding the approaches to the Pfhor homeworld itself during the slave revolt of the Nakh.

Woah. It's another reference to the Nahk. *alarm bells go off in my creative centers* This shows that the Nahk, my rebelling slave race of lizard Elite-like species *did* indeed take their slave revolt into space.

I highly doubt that an entire Battle Group would be called into action against a few missionary ships the Nahk would perhaps send off to other worlds to rally support.

If the Nahk rebellion escalated into space battles around the Pfhor homeworld - how bad was the Drinnol one? This M2 manual text sets the bar fairly high in terms of actions taken by an enslaved race against the Pfhor. You may have to rethink your Drinnol's battle plan to top this Forrest.

Pfhor slave Revolts:
1st - Drinniol - the worst
2nd - Nahk - not as bad, but still bad
3rd - S'pht - less bad than the Nahk

Now for this last little bit...

: Undefeated in battle, it was finally politics that splintered Battle Group
: Three; by sending a few ships to suppress subservient races here, a few more to garrison the fringes of Pfhor influence there, the nobility had slowly broken the power of the old Navy.

Does this last caption mean that the Central Arm of Battle Group 3 Durandal encounters / easily disables is only what remains of the Central arm after politics had broken it?

Perhaps a single arm of a battle group would have almost twice as many ships, if it was still intact.

This brings up another question: Does this breaking of the "old Navy" only apply to Battle Group 3, or does it extend to all other Battle Groups numbers 1 - through- 7?
It's looking good that Battle Group # 4, or perhaps #5 will make an appearance in WMaiD, as their numbers are implied to exist mathematically by the Trilogy, but don't have any real limiting history covered by Bungie.

My aim here is to clarify some story elements in WMaiD I've just left ambiguous up until now. If such an undiscovered, and pivotal Jjaro outpost was discovered (all others thought destroyed after the Drinnol rebellion? Forrest?) - I would presume all three arms of a Battle Group would be sent to secure / defend the outpost against the UESC or other alien races.

Thanks for the transcription of the M2 Manual Prologue text Bob-B-Q.
Again, every ones input on any questions, or things I've raised as "facts" are welcome.

Regards,
-Blayne [ernie]
