John, you didn't like the missile launcher tease!? Actually, I am curious, what do people think of teases? None? A few? Roll 'em out because I like to feel manipulated? I could easily change it from a missile launcher to something else, or make it into a secret (I already know how I will go about doing that). My original thought was to show the player that there were some new things to look forward to later in the scenario because I felt that so far (at least at the time of making the level) the scenario had nothing to make it stand out from the original Marathon.
The first ambush in the central room is a favorite place for me to pull out my dual pistols and let the lead fly. If you have not noticed, the pistols fire slightly faster and take slightly less time to reload. They are meant to be more than a backup weapon since I feel that pistols (or whatever the "weak" weapon is in a game) is often ignored; and in marathon you only have so many weapon slots so better make good use of ALL of them.
I also experimented with various sky textures for this level, but eventually returned to the original starscape. It can't always be day.
