Maya on an iMac?

In Response To: Re: 3d modeling programs (Boomer)

: Ian uses Maya. I doubt most of what we see in RED is 3D art, though. Maya is
: a very cool app, but a little complicated. It has some heavy requirements,
: (including MacOS 10+ iirc), I'm not sure if your computer (266 mhz, 32
: SDRAM?) meets them. It might run a bit choppy/not at all. Then again, I
: haven't tried running Maya on my mac, I have an iMac DV SE myself. I use
: Cinema 4D and 3D studio max, I'm ashamed to say it but I've moved on to my
: cheap and powerful PC... but only until I can afford a new Mac ofcourse!

I've been (failing at) teaching myself Maya for a while, and it requires a pretty beefy system to run, ay least from a memory and video card standpoint.

It also fails the "cheap" test by a wide margin ;)

You can download the Personal Learning Edition, which is full-featured but includes a very obtrusive watermark not only on renders but over the working area as well. It's really distracting. Well worth checking out though if your Mac and your brain have the horsepower to handle it.
