: I have suddenly realised that we mapmakers never care for what the players
: wants to see in maps. We always assume we know as we're players at the
: same time. However the more I think about it I start to believe we might
: miss a lot of great ideas if we just stick to our own wants. So what do
: you players want to see for kind of scenarios and maps. Do you have
: thoughts of maps but lacking the skills or time to make them come true?
Goran, we had a thread that dealt with this thought a few months ago. Mapmakers typically make maps that they like to play. But in many ways, that's OK, as most of us non-mapmakers don't know what's possible in the first place. Originality, creativity, eye candy and good monster placement are still the most important aspects of mapmaking. You have made some really clever maps, Goran, and I'm not sure I could improve upon them. I would have never thought of having snow in a scenario - your implementation was masterful. I would have never thought of piloting a Juggernaut, which I always assumed was robotic - it took Mark to show us what could be done. And who besides Chris would have conjured up a level played entirely under water.
What would I like to see - well, there are already such cool maps out there that I'm stymied in trying to think of something that hasn't been done. Most of my major ideas would require a more advanced game engine. All I can tell you is that I like nonlinearity, I like exploration and I like to be surprised. I'll give this more thought.
