First comes the creation and then comes the explanation.

It's artist nature: the more you want to know about their work, the more they lie about it.

I don't blame the guy. People expect us to lie about what we do. Back when I worked in the graphic area, I disappointed more than one stupid boss by telling the truth.

Stupid boss (eyes wide open): "Wow! How did you come up with this cool looking cover?"

Me: "I just wanted to do a cool looking cover."

Stupid boss (walking away): "Baaah!"

What I *should* had said: "I wanted to convey the freshness of the product with the purity of Nature." That would have done the trick. ;-)
