I used Google and found a semi-interesting message about that front-paged by Hamish on Feb 1, 1997.
Another vague allusion to it is "Jjarro were at Tau Ceti".
Maybe it's all just assumption, but remember that most of the depth of Marathon is unintentional, because it was so slap-dash.
