Bungie and the Big Boss

Nope... not another Bruce Lee movie.
And definitely not another attempt by Bill Gates to get Bungie to continue making Halo games, this time by buying Activision.
No, this is the time honored first person shooter formula of the Big Boss. You know... the insanely hard guy you have to kill at the end of the game. And after the 76th failed attempt you finally send him to the afterworld while you collapse in a pool of feverish sweat and carpal tunnel.
So where are the Big Bosses in Bungie's earlier games like Marathon and Pathways? We have the super bad Alien Leader (double tap knockout to the chin) and the hostile alien God beneath the Yucatan (oops... sorry I nicked you with my knife). And remind me again... Big Boss in Marathon 2?
Bungie doesn't do Big Bosses or do they?
