In Response To: Re: A Case For Video Game Remakes (Document)

Assertion: Marathon 1 remade as a modern game would be either:
* Crappy by modern standards. (Only one open outdoor level? Only two types of environments? Endless sequences of boxy corridors and small rooms? And the terminals are kind of long to adapt directly into voice.)
Or:
* Not so much an update of the original as an adaptation into a different medium (analogous to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings).

M2 and Moo would fare slightly better, but the same basic problem would exist.

Also, the new version would probably have massively different gameplay, with intelligent enemies able to not constantly kill each other/themselves. So there would (thankfully) be at least one reason for people to still seek out the originals: to see if they have the skills of an old-school Vidmaster.
