In Response To: A Case For Video Game Remakes *LINK* (poena.dare) : "Remakes are essential," he told GameFile in an interview ...
It's not broken. You'd think it was physically painful for some people to look at a surface with pixels. As for the controls, I've found that up-down-left-right-shoot is a lot easier for non-gamers to pick up than mouselook or dual analogs, and Aleph One allows mouselook anyway. Is this different from when Pointy Haired Boss was in charge of creating a digital archive of the world's greatest art, and planned to use the opportunity to fix all of the artists' mistakes? Do we also need to remake every good movie and TV series that doesn't employ the latest graphics technology?* You could argue that remakes are needed for games that don't run on modern systems, but unless you're going to remake or find the source code to every single game ever published, the only thing that can actually solve that problem is better emulation. (Sorry to rant, but as far as I'm concerned he started it.) * Disclaimer: I'm aware that there are practical differences between games and films or paintings, but I think the idea that all sufficiently old ones need to be remade is flawed in all those cases.
