My guess is that the projectile has a collision sphere (or maybe cylinder) that it uses for collision detection with all the other objects in the game, and whatever object it impacts first is what it will cause damage to. Rather, that's how I would code it, and that's how I imagine they coded but, but I've never played with this part of the Marathon physics; I had to ask Gregory the other day whether or not you can walk on top of scenery items. *shame*
