Wondering about related help...

: You know, we (you?) could always start a Wiki or contribute to one that
: already exists , and flesh out all the various competing theories on pages
: about the various characters, races, events, etc.

This may be a nutty idea doomed to die a death of quiet solitude...

I'm curious how much interest there is in the community to have a compilation of mapmaking/scenario development tips, tricks, etc. In working on my own maps, I've gone through a number of stages (that I imagine almost every mapmaker encounters) until I've finally got a "process" that I follow.

What are other mapmaker's ways of getting the job done? What have you found that works best, what doesn't work, where do you look for help when you're stuck (in addition to MSF posts). It'd take a good bit of sifting to link all the related posts about a topic, but good things take time. I think there's been enough quality work done since 1997 to more than justify an updated/compiled collection of how-to's. It's the scope of the idea that makes me worry that it's completely unrealistic.

Would people be interested in contributing to a sort of update to the Forge/Anvil portion of the MI manual, to include what's been learned, expanded upon, etc? I'm not sure a straight Wiki would be the way to go as I'm imagining a more portable sort of item, like a doc or pdf file, something that people new to the game could latch onto for help when they get bitten by the mapmaking bug and imagine a great scenario...if only they knew where to start.

If it were to exist, the doc/pdf would answer questions like "What can I find at the Phforums?" "What's fileball?" "Where should I look for help with lighting?" "Why don't my platforms make any noise?"

Any takers?
