In Response To: DiaBD Volunteers: The Pit (MartiNZ)

: Again I had a little trouble, being unable to see the
: terminal pics - I missed the first insertion point the first time through
: but then somehow found it after looking around a bit.

Even with the pictures, it's still difficult to find. I must have gone through the level several times before I decided to sit in that alcove until the door closed - only then did the door to the chip insertion slot open. This is not at all intuitive - not exactly an example of good mapmaking technique.

: oh for M1 on TC when we could have picked them all up!

What do you mean M1 on TC? With M2, Infinity and AO for the Mac, you can still pick up everything you find. If AO SDL doesn't let you do this, perhaps you should try M2 Win instead - and complain to the AO team. This would put you at an extreme disadvantage - this time through I have plenty of ammo to spare.

: Along the corridor from here are some fighters and
: a 'secret'? room with a 3x recharger - it opens on approach so I'm not
: sure if it was meant to be secret in any way.

Not by my definition of a secret.

: And we end up teleporting
: out, just avoiding another couple of fighters coming in from behind if
: we're quick enough.

Chicken!

: Thankfully the teleport coming up is 'supercharged', meaning that we pick
: up invincibility on the way. Very useful - allowing us to take him out
: with fusion in good time. Trying again with an aim to save fusion I found
: grenades too slow for this.

Why not use all those rockets - that's what they're for! One thing about DiaBD - it doesn't lack for rocket ammo. Might as well use it :)

Oh, it's probably worth mentioning that going through that teleporter shuts down all the terminals on the level except the exit term. Supposedly the supercharged transport burns them all out. If you didn't study the terminals closely before, you'll be out of luck now.

: In the meantime I've gone on a few levels. On Jaunt I found there was a
: corridor that quit AlephOne on entry - I even remembered this one from
: however long ago. Conveniently it's easy enough not to go in there, but I
: find it a little odd nonetheless.

It's probably good to mention this now since some people may want to play it before we discuss it. There is indead a bug in Jaunt that crashes AO. I haven't been able to track it down and I'm not sure I can figure it out in any case. It's easy enough to work around, but it requires the use of some minor hang time - a grenade hop over a short wall. The down side is that you lose acess to that 3X recharger, but the monster ambushes are probably easier taken in reverse - except for one. More on that in a couple of days.

: Also, I remembered Sensori OverLord when
: I got there - it was mentioned earlier in the series as being difficult I
: believe, and I did find it most frustrating - how they can hide the way to
: certain places so well is amazing.

I'm ready to tackle it again myself - at least this time I have enough fusion ammo to do it.
