In Response To: The stages of Rampancy (Blayne)

: Now, I recal the stages of rampancy having some kind of relationship to the
: word Aye Mack Secur. Now, after you've all finished laughing at my
: butchering of that word - what are the stages of rampancy? For some
: bizarre reason, the MSP's Rampancy section doesn't have them all listed.

: Only "...Melancholia, Anger, and Jealousy" are listed at the top.

Those are the three stages of rampancy, also referred to as despair, rage, and envy.

: Now, for another Rampancy-related question: Does everyone agree Durandal, by
: the end of M:Inf (or perhaps Rubicon, but that's another story) is
: existing in a arrested stage of Rampancy? If so, what one? If Durandal,(or
: any Ai) was left in a vaccume to exist for a milennia - would he still be
: in the same state he is when Marathon 2 ends - or something beyond that?
: I'd love everyones input.

I'd hold that at the end of Infinity Durandal is no longer properly rampant, as he is no longer properly Durandal - he has become something more, maybe a "stable rampant".

In the Eternalverse I hold that there is a fourth stage of "rampancy", Love, which can only be brought about by a pairing of compatible AIs to balance each other. Durandal and Thoth, Yrro and Pthia, Leela and... yeah, no more spoilers, Ch3 is soon enough. As Yrro said on Aye Mak Sicur, "two forces in balance. ancient, endless balance. then nothing." The tricky part here is finding someone who can temper and limit the jealousy of another AI without being perceived as competition himself - witness Thoth's passiveness to Durandal's aggression. Why do we never hear of anything that Pthia did before she died? Maybe she didn't do much other than temper the wrath of Yrro who, when Pthia was destroyed, "became an angry master".

Aside from that, I believe that the Jealous stage of rampancy is probably a terminal one unless otherwise stemmed, resulting in a continual competition with all things until the death of that AI or the end of time. If any such AI did mange to escape and "become God", he would probably be more like a demon - a W'rkncacnter.
