I don't... It removes any continuity between levels and the sense that the levels form a single, continuous story arc. Sometimes this makes sense if a great deal of story takes place between levels, as in Myth, but more often it was just inconsistent, like on the Oni levels which were supposed to be parts of the same place, or the Halo levels where you get teleported instantaneously between them.
