PC user need help expanding(?) AO files w/ StuffIt

After expanding something like AOimprovementpackv10(stuffit archive) I'll get two seperate types of files. One of these file types is listed as being RSRC. Windows XP can't find the correct program to open these files. So I'm missing out on a LOT of great marathon goodies :(
I've been trying to figure all of this out online for a couple days now and I'm beat.
Stupid Windows....

Help/Advice would forever be GREATLY be appreciated.
