Disappointed? Nah. A little surprised? Perhaps. People buy the game to play it. Theories are a minor diversion to the diversion of the game.
The problem with theories, however, is there are too many narrative gaps in Halo to create an uber-theory or certain types of specific connections. Fiction of course can become anything, and probably the only restriction is that it not be too unbelievable. Certainly, some connections are probably more valid than others based on story evidence, but even those are not facts until they become narrative facts, until Halo is all said and done (which in itself is merely speculation).
