They could also be brandished as part of a threat display. The (h2?) elites clearly had a four lobed opening at the back of the throat. I speculated that their gut started and ended in the mouth. Our lungs developed as tubes that branched off from the trachea (part of the foregut). I speculated that the two lower lobes gave access to the gut ends and the two upper tubes gave access to the breathing tubes. I also speculated that they breathed in through one tube and out through the other giving an efficient, one way, flow of air. As for how they pooped... imagine putting your arm inside a long woolen sock to pick up a tennis ball in your fingers then pull your hand back so that the sock is inside out. Imagine that this sock is so long that your hand is maybe two feet back inside the Elite's throat. The material is doubled up and the end is at the back of the mouth whilst the hand is two feet further down the throat. To poop just push your hand forward until the tube has extended outside the mouth. There would be a sphincter keeping the exposed orifice closed (just in front of the tennis ball). Imagine opening the sphincter (or your fingers) to release the poo ball into a toilet). Sangheli toilets could be at chest hight on the walls for convenience. They wouldn't need to bend down to go to the loo. Many organisms don't have a separate penis. Most (all?) reptiles have a cloaca which is just the end of the gut. They can piss, poo, and excrete sperm or eggs out of it. Some cloacas can be extended outside the body like a penis. So, anyway, never kiss an Elite (in case you were ever tempted).
