I think the Precursors meant for the Flood to be revenge and a solution all wrapped in one. Peace by force, infinite wisdom, and revenge on the Forerunners. Maybe. lol Also, I find it funny we still have a huge mystery left from as far back as Halo 1 (343GS's comment)
