: If this is true then i'm freaking happy I used to want a Halo HD, but after playing Reach I think I've joined the "it would never be quite as good as the original crowd". The reason I say that is because of "modernised" Captain Keyes and the Pillar of Autumn you see in Reach. To me, they just felt "off". They didn't seem right. Keyes seemed too young, the Pillar too... different. It wasn't the same. It was a nod to the fans but at the same time seeing everything brought up to date killed me a bit inside. It looked *different*, and, man, you can't mess with Combat Evolved... it's just wrong! I'm not saying I just want to see CE assets ported into the Reach engine, but that the low-res stuff in Combat Evolved will be interpreted differently by different artists when trying to upscale into HD, and that means I'm always going to be disappointed that Keyes looks weird or the Pillar seems a bit shiny or other such trivial complaints that only I/we, as hardcore fans, will be bothered by. I'd be even more considered of this problem with 343 Industries at the helm. Isn't Frankie on the record as saying the Mark V only looks the way it does because of Xbox hardware limitations? And just look at the covers of re-released books! It's minor details and more likely indifference rather than a desired retcon, but seeing dual SMGs on The Flood just irks me. That's my fear. That we'll get a Combat Evolved remake where Foehammer is a Falcon pilot, where the Chief wears HW-inspired "modernised" Mark V, where the Elites all have weird helmets and the Chief can dual-wield Plasma Repeaters and has to kill the Brute Chieftains guarding the Silent Cartographer. I'm not saying 343i would be so careless and destructive, and I'm not saying that I wouldn't want things modernised, because I tell you this, I would *love* a pixel-perfect HD-upscaled Combat Evolved remake. The trouble is that it would never be pixel perfect. It would never be as good as the original. The Plasma Rifle wouldn't feel quite as "weighty", or the frag grenades wouldn't have the same blast radius, or the running speed is 2.1231% too slow or the gravity a bit too strong, or x or y or z... Being a remake, it would always be in direct competition with the revered original, and therefore it would be in an impossible position. Nobody would ever get such a thing right. It's a lose-lose proposition, and that's why I don't believe this rumour. And yet... despite my reservations, how I would love to see them try... just in case they did get things pixel-perfect. It would be *glorious* to play M6Ds-and-regenerating-grenades on Sidewinder over Xbox Live...!
