The even simpler way is to just accept that there is a certain flexibility in canon and, where there is a contradiction, the newer stuff wins out. Honestly, I have to chuckle that of your list, you'd consider Fall of Reach as "canon" when its probably one of the biggest sources of problems we have. As the first novel, written in a very tight timeline with absolutely minimal oversight by someone new to the franchise at the time (who wasn't then), its one of the most questionable sources out there.
