In Response To: Uhh, Bro... (Riceatron) : As said on The Ark : "They're building an AA Battery, that thing will tear the Dawn

Destroying the AA battery on The Storm was perhaps the most utterly pointless objective in the entire series. That big AA gun posed no serious threat to those frigates (and the AA Wraiths would've been less than useless, considering they can't even hit a well-piloted Hornet). First off, the plasma was way too slow to pose a threat to anything a long ways off. I can imagine the scenario on the bridge: Crewman (unconcerned): "Captain. We have AA plasma inbound. ETA two minutes." Captain (deadpan): "Oh dear. How ever shall we avoid it in time? *sigh* 100 meters to port." [plasma passes by two minutes later] "That was a close one. *rolls eyes*" Furthermore, like The BS Police said, the frigates could have simply sniped it with a MAC blast from long range. They also could've just fired a Shiva nuke to demolish the whole area, that way they wouldn't have needed to hit the damn gun to take it out. Or they could've sicced a squad of Longswords to attack it simultaneously from multiple directions. Just detonate it near it. Of course, given the observed air traffic around the crater, they could've saved ammo by just coming at the dreadnaught from another direction. Long story short, there was no need for ground troops in Voi. It had no strategic value. The Covenant air forces were all that was needed to secure the crater. One or two CCS-class cruisers and some Seraphs could've efforlessly repelled three UNSC frigates and their Longswords, and ground forces would have posed zero threat to the Covenant fleet. Why the Covenant put up an AA gun in Voi (and deployed infantry, Wraiths, Banshees, and a Scarab to guard it) is beyond me, and the fact that the Chief and the Marines were sent there to take it out makes even less sense.
