I thought it has been speculated that : she might have been a Spartan I... but maybe that's my own speculation. We : don't know much about the Spartan I's and what Cortana says in the : Conversations booklet may not apply to them. I think one of the characters : in the I Love Bees (I know that might not be canon) had a parent who was a : Spartan I as well. Maria is most definately a Spartan II. If a Spartan I, a normal human hyped up on some drug treatment, had the strength to maneuver and control a MJOLNIR suit, then we'd be putting every single Marine we had into one. The reason you don't see them is because of the amount of force and concentration it requires to control, power only found in the enhanced Spartan II soldiers.
