Re: Major Halo 3 Campaign Spoiler/Halo 3 Beta Egg

: I made a post comparing V and the MC a long while back. In it, I described
: how it wasn't necessarily that we project ourselves onto him, but, like V,
: he represents everyone and therefore can't have one face. If we saw his
: face, we wouldn't associate him with the entire human race, which is what
: he represents. Just like V represented the people being controlled by
: government. V summed it up best when he said, "Evey, please. . .there
: is a face beneath this mask, but it's not me. I'm no more that face than I
: am the muscles beneath it, or the bones beneath them."

: The reason we needn't see his face is because it's the least important thing
: about the character. The main point of the character is to be a symbol of
: humanity. If any of you guys ever listened to the Saw III commentary, the
: director made an excellent point which is sort of relevant. The character
: Amanda finds an envelope from Jigsaw and, after reading it, she breaks
: down in tears. We never get to see what it said. Why not? Because that
: isn't important. It doesn't matter what it said; what matters is that it
: did say SOMETHING that made her react like that. This is one way to look
: at the MC. It doesn't matter what he looks like; what matters is the
: reason he does what he does. That's awesome storytelling IMO.

: Here's that V post for reference:

I understand your point, but I stand by mine; in my opinion, they've already gone over the line by giving him other character-defining elements. I don't think there's any real difference between a face and a voice. And I imagine a lot of blind folks would likely agree with me. =P
