MC's Face *possible V for Vendetta spoilers*
Posted By: IbeechuDate: 8/10/06 1:34 a.m.

I saw V for Vendetta with my old lady (girlfriend, not grandmother) when it was first released in March. From the trailers, it looked like an ordinary cliche action flick. But my girl wanted to see it and, like all movies she wants to see that I think look stupid, I checked it out on IMDb to see it's rating and good user reviews to psyche myself out and convince myself that it will be worth watching. When I got to V for Vendetta's page, I saw that it was written by the Wachowski's and that Hugo Weaving was in it. Then I saw that it was already on the top 250 list. This was enough for me. I eagerly went to the theatre and saw it. I love every moment of it, especially the end which brought a tear to my eye because I have the same beliefs as the main character, that people should not be afraid of the government; government should be afraid of the people.

So what does this have to do with the Halo movie? Nothing really, I just wanted to say how much I adore the film, which brings me to my real point. I rented this movie the other night and watched it just moments ago. The point that V doesn't remove his mask (or you don't see his face, rather) through the entire movie reminded me a lot of the Master Chief. In the movie, when V says to Evey:

"Evey, please. . .there is a face beneath this mask, but it's not me. I'm no more that face than I am the muscles beneath it, or the bones beneath them."
That reminded me of the Master Chief and his mask. In the Halo movie, showing his face will destroy the point of the character. The point is not what he looks like, but what he does. Showing his face could distract the audience from what is really important-his actions, not his facial features.

At the end *spoiler warning?* Evey mentions that V was all of us. I think that's how Bungie wants us to feel about the Master Chief as well. V's character was that while he may have been a man, he was not just a man. He represented all of our beliefs and if his face were shown, it would've ruined that. We would then associate V with a face, not an idea, which was what really mattered. I think the same goes for the Chief. He represents all of us, and Bungie (I hope) wants to keep it that way. Were they to show his face, we would then associate this character that we all feel a part of with exactly that: a face. The face isn't what matters: it's the ideas and actions of the character wearing that face that matter.

So what is the real point of this post? Do I even have one? I guess you could say that the point behind this post is to just share my feelings on the whole "zomg show teh master chefs face!!!!1" issue. Now that I have my point across, I'd like to know yours on the issue. Should MC's face be shown in the movie? Or at any point in time for that matter? Why or why not?
