No pistol in T&R doesn't make sense at all, but since the other weapons in T&R were more than enough for me on the difficulty levels I play, I never noticed it's absence. Wierd. I'd certainly want the pistol on legendary, for its elite-killing uber-leetness. Since Pillar of Autumn is mostly a training level, I assume that Bungie didn't want to introduce too powerful a weapon too early on, especially since nothing higher than a red elite appears in the level, even on Legendary. On Legendary, a shotty would be great. On anything less, it'd make it only too easy.
