More games need to have the consequence of action type : setup. If you waste that unit then you find another way. So in effect, the entire game would be one huge level? Try getting to the last battle and realizing that you need more Spartans, and that you accidentally overwrote your other saved games (or didn't bother to hoard them), so to get more you have to use a save from 10 gameplay-hours ago and bring your Spartans through all those battles again without allowing a single casualty. As the kids say, consequence resets between levels FTW.
