I wanted people to come to their own conclusions as I'm not exactly sure if I'm missing something. Anyway, the "object" consists of three circles (although there are more circles in the picture). Find the largest circle near the bottom, then find the next circle right above that. Notice that the bottom larger circle has lines around it that look like four tentacles. The bottom circle with the tentacle like lines around it plus the next circle above it resembles the Flood warning sign. The object has also a third circle even above that which could represent something "controlling" the being or it could be part of the same being. My interpretations are the following: 1. The object in the carvings represent a "Gravemind" with the bottom two circles. The third connected circle above represents some kind of controlling device. In other words, the Gravemind is in captivity. 2. OR the bottom and top circles represent a tentacled being and the middle circle represents that this being has a Flood parasite in its chest. This is interesting to me because the way it is drawn reminds me of a ritual, as if having a parasite was part of a Forerunner ritual. 3. OR the bottom circle represents a Flood infection form, the two bottom circles combined represent a "Gravemind" but the third circle on top with the bottom two represents a more evolved form of the Flood we have not seen yet. A Queen Flood or something that controls all the Flood everywhere. 4. OR, I'm just going down a dead end path. It is totally coincidence that the carvings resemble the Flood sign. In addition, if you see the carving on the wall in the game, it will show that the very bottom and very top of the picture actually are just repeats of the same pattern (e.g. the smallest circle on the bottom is the top of another "object" and the very top circle in the picture is the bottom of another object). This could either mean that the column moves up and down or goes through multiple floors. Or it could mean to represent "generations" or "ages" all under the same cycle. The buildings on the surface of the ring world in Halo 2 are not all part of the Halo. Many were transported from other places and put on Halo. In Halo 1, this might be the same case. This means that this shrine or temple came from somewhere else, before Halo was built. This column shown in the picture could be significantly older than Halo. Perhaps the last Forerunners (the creators of the Halos) were not the first to go on the Great Journey, but just an alien race(s) caught in the same Flood cycle of doom. If this is the case, then just how many "ages" of the Flood has this galaxy gone through?
