I think peace with the flood is very possible, even though Gravemind screwed you on HC. In fact some people don't seem to realize just how much he did screw you. First, how could HC be a likely spot for the index to be? If the Covenant wanted to activated Hale they wouldn't take the index off it. It is also obvious why he chose the cheif to go to HC and not the arbiter. The arbiter would create chaos too, but only against the brutes and their allies. He would help the elites, where as GM wanted total chaos. Only the chief could fight all the covie races. Third, when the flood finaly invade HC they don't even reward the cheif for his great work stirring the hornets nest. The first thing they do is attack him. I also think that GM is the only one of his kind and has absolute power over his minions. He says he listend "through rock and metal and time". If so I think he is more than capable of commanding all the flood from a single spot. Also, in sci-fi, beings that can listen through time are usualy rare. Having lots of them would ruin the mystique. So yes, GM willfully played a dirty trick. But despite this I still have high hopes for his characture. I don't know about you guys, but from the first time he started talking he sounded very wise to me. He makes for a dangerous enemy, but potentialy a valuable ally if that were possible. Sympathy ideas about him seem to make sense too, for along with wisdom he seemed to give of an air of sadness and grief. Not in the evil way, but in the way that made me feel sorry for him even though I didn't know why. Remember after the credits and his little monologe? The key line is " my mind is not at rest". This leads me to believe that GM might not be so sure of his current corse of actions, and may even feel guilty. While being wise and litteraly far-sighted, one must remember his being basicaly cut off from civilization for a long time. His need for answers from cortana seemed to me an almost childlike longing. People suspect he will ask questions on the line of "where is Earth", but I think they will be more along the lines of the birds and the bees, so to say. He feels empty.
God my grammer sucks.
